Alyssa Salazar
Director of Youth & Family Religious Formation
Alyssa was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Being Catholic is a fundamental part of her family’s identity. Since she was a teen, she looked for ways to serve the Church. She sang in the choir, was a lector at mass, participated and facilitated retreats, and attended youth groups regularly. Upon
graduating high school, she took a year off to serve as a missionary with NET Ministries. After her missionary year she knew that she wanted to have a
career that involved serving the Church. She went to college at the University of Texas in El Paso and received her bachelor’s in media advertising and
communications. Since then, she has been blessed to work at the diocesan offices in the Diocese of El Paso, teach theology at Loretto Academy, an all-
girls Catholic high school in El Paso, and was selected as a recipient of Catholic Extension’s YALI Scholarship. The YALI scholarship allows laypersons
from a rural diocese to obtain a Master of Arts in Theology without the financial burden. In June of 2023 she graduated with her master’s in theology
from the University of Notre Dame. It was then that the Holy Spirit led her to move to Lafayette in August of 2023. She started working at Our Lady of
Fatima in January of 2024. She is thrilled to be working with youth and families and hopes to help lead (always with the help of God’s grace) as many
souls to heaven as possible. She credits her parents to her success because they were the ones who first introduced her to the beauty of the Catholic
Church at such a young age.
