Lighting a candle for someone is a way to both extend your prayers and show solidarity with the person the prayer is being made on behalf of. The faithful also light candles as a sign of gratitude to God for answered prayers In the Catholic church, light has always had a special significance because it represents Christ. We know that Jesus called himself the light of the world.
The parish has begun the tradition of having the Sanctuary Lamp burn in memorial of a loved one, in honor of a family member, or for a special intention. There are three places that contain sanctuary lamps at Our Lady of Fatima Parish: the Church (1 candle), the Adoration Chapel of the Good Shepherds (4 candles), and the Pastor's chapel in the Rectory (1 candle). All candles burn for two weeks. Keeping with tradition, a $5 donation is made for each of these sanctuary candles ($5 for one in the Church or Pastor's Chapel or $20 for the 4 candles in the Adoration Chapel). Please call the parish office during regular business hours to schedule your sanctuary lamp memorials. Dates are available on a first come, first served basis. All memorials, honorees or special intentions will be remembered in the Parish Family Bulletin.
