Liturgical Ministry!
Liturgical Ministers have a special opportunity to be Christ to those assembled by their acts of service within the Mass. Below are some of the ways you can do just that. Besides a one-time training, there is no extra obligation outside of Mass. We hope many of you feel a call to actively serve your fellow parishioner family, as Jesus served His disciples while on earth. Altar Servers It is a great honor and privilege to be an Altar Server. The ministry of altar server is open to all young boys and girls in the parish who are in the 3rd grade or older and have received the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Server of St. George The Servers of St. George perform a leading role serving for this parish by acting as captains for the various “teams” that serve at Holy Mass. They also are enlisted to serve at special occasions, such as Christmas Mass, Holy Week, Confirmation, and other functions that require an expertise over and above the ordinary. Parents of children who are altar servers are contacted at the end of their 8th grade year to train and serve as a Server of St. George. These young men and women serve throughout their high school years and some into their college years. Lectors (Adults 18 years and older who have received Communion and Confirmation) Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass for us to hear and reflect upon. This is a great ministry for those who want to delve deeper into the Word of the Mass. Lectors are given training and resources before serving. Anyone Catholic in good-standing with the Church, 18 years and older who has received Confirmation and Communion can become a lector. Usher While Altar Servers assist the clergy, Ushers assist the congregation. They help parishioners find seats, assist in case of an emergency, and make sure everyone is able to receive Holy Communion. Being an usher is a great way to get to know and serve your parish community. Anyone in 6th Grade and above can become an Usher. If you are under 16, we will make sure an adult is present as the other Usher if you have questions and to ensure a safe environment. |
